Advanced Transmission Network Planning for a High-Growth Power System

World region: South Asia

Sector: Government Agency

Year: 2024-2025

Impact: More efficient planning

Development of a long-term transmission expansion strategy for the State of Haryana using advanced power system modelling and optimization tools.

Pharoes supported the development of a comprehensive transmission network expansion plan for the State of Haryana, one of the fastest-growing electricity systems in India.

Using the CERES power system planning platform, the project evaluated future grid reinforcement needs under multiple demand, generation, and flexibility scenarios. The analysis considered conventional network expansion measures together with modern flexibility solutions such as battery storage, FACTS devices, and demand-side flexibility.

The work included international benchmarking of transmission planning methodologies and detailed simulation of least-cost system expansion pathways.

Key Impact

  • Long-term transmission expansion roadmap for a rapidly growing power system

  • Integration of flexibility technologies in transmission planning

  • Advanced hourly simulations supporting investment decisions

  • Contribution to a broader modernization of transmission planning methodologies in India
